Story

HOPE is now a registered charity, set up to support our local homeless and poverty-stricken community. We see people, our street friends, who have been viciously attacked, urinated over and abused. One of our Street Friends turned up at our Outreach one night last winter asking for a clean top – as he had been set alight. A member of the public had knowingly and intentionally set fire to his clothes before walking away, laughing. Another of our Street Friends (homeless) was was dragged into a back alley by 4 men, who set about him with snooker cues. They broke 4 ribs, broke his arm and then, unbelievably and what I hadn’t seen until he held his arm up to me, had cut his finger off. He also had a small injury on his shin, that was repeatedly getting infected. It started off as a small, one-inch cut, but after 3 months on the streets, with little or no regular medical attention, the skin is now badly infected and he is worried about losing his leg completely, unless he can get it under control. It’s not just the severe cold that puts them at risk, it is unsanitary conditions, depression and often their mental health suffers greatly

These are just two of the hundreds of incidents that happen to our Street Friends.

Being homeless is very rarely a life choice - it is the outcome of circumstances that could befall any one of us.

At HOPE, we do everything we can to support these people and help them to get back on their feet.
£50,000 will provide:
A room for just 2 people for a year, in local accommodation. There are currently many, many more people in Chester Le Street alone, sleeping rough
250 x sleeping bags
200 x 2 person tents
180 boxes of hardwares
500 x HOPE Street packs

We also provide facilities for Breakfast Clubs, Coffee Mornings, Film Afternoons, Men's Chat, Warm Space and Craft Clubs.

We need YOUR support to help us to continue to support our local community. PLEASE HELP!
