Hello everyone! My name is Emily and I live in the city of Poughkeepsie NY. Currently right now, there is a colony of 8 feral cats that live just underneath the front porch of my apartment building. This is not including the countless other cat colonies that live on my block under other peoples homes, let alone the number of feral cats that live throughout the city. While many people consider these beautiful creatures nuisances or bothersome, their presence is actually highly benefical to our community. Feral cats help keep the rodent and insect population under control, which is great for all of us living in apartment buildings! However, even though these animals cannot be domesticated and kept as pets, they require medical attention to keep their population under control and to help prevent the spread of disease. They also like our house pets need food, and a safe place to seek shelter during adverse weather conditions in order to survive. I am trying to raise money in order to buy supplies to build safe shelter boxes that will keep them warm and dry in the winter and the rain. Also, the money being raised would go towards renting have-a-heart traps to capture them, and then transporting them to the Dutchess County SPCA, where they would be spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
