Story
In 2015 the Ferens Art Gallery commissioned the acclaimed New York artist, Spencer Tunick, to create a new body of work to form part of a major exhibition during the Hull UK City of Culture celebrations.
The commission was funded using the Ferens Endowment Fund set up by TR Ferens in 1928 specifically for the purchase of artworks.
In July 2016, 3200 brave volunteers stripped naked, painted themselves blue and posed around Hull for the ‘Sea of Hull’ event. Some of the striking images created on that day will be displayed at the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, as part of the SKIN exhibition, between 22 April and 13 August.
The gallery has purchased three works from ‘Sea of Hull’ as part of the commission. These photographs form an exhibition highlight and will be held as a permanent record of an extraordinary day in the life of the city.
In keeping with the inclusive nature of Tunick’s event the Friends of the Ferens would like to open out the selection of a further image to participants, the people of Hull and wider region, and art lovers everywhere, to secure a final photograph by popular vote.
Please help the Friends by voting and by making a contribution, no matter how small, to help to achieve this.
The Friends of the Ferens is a registered charity and the funds you provide will be used exclusively to support this purchase on behalf of the Ferens Art Gallery.
