Fleetwood isn’t a big place. It’s a town that suffered a lot of over the years with the decline of its main industries like Fishing. Since the 1970’s its become one of the most deprived places in England. But it won’t go quietly. There’s a sense of community here in Fleetwood that’s committed to making it a better place to be; safer, happier, growing.

Fleetwood Rugby Club is a local team that, in its own small way wants to do what it can to bring families closer together; through rugby. The vision of the Minis and Juniors section of the club is to “create a welcoming safe and fun place for young people and families to enjoy rugby”. And that safety and sense of fun is something that started with the Team that plays this year as the Under 15’s.

Stand on the touchlines at a Fleetwood Juniors game and you don’t hear the sort of aggressiveness that you hear in other sports. This is because the club works hard to foster the principles of respect and discipline that are the core values of the RFU.

The core of the Fleetwood Under 15’s team have been playing rugby together for the best part of the last 8 or 9 years. They don’t massive club funds at their disposal. They’re a group of 23 boys who have come together as a team to do one thing – play rugby.

We are raising funds to take the team to Hilversum for a last hurrah before they head off into the adult game. It’s the most prestigious juniors tournament in Europe and attracts teams from all over the world.

It’s an expensive business going on tour. The cheapest quote for the player’s kit is £135 per player, and to travel and participate in Holland is £320 per player. To kit out the boys and take them to play will cost the team up to £7,500.
