This week we received the devastating news that Mike, Fernhill House’s beloved Maintenance Manager passed away in hospital with his family around him.

Mike leaves behind his partner of 35 years, Thelma, Daughter’s Katie and Sinead, Son-in-Law Vytas and Grandson Logan. Both Thelma and Katie also work here at Fernhill House.

Mike joined the team in 2021, however since Fernhill House opened he often assisted in a voluntary capacity at the request of his other half and Activity & Events Manager, Thelma. Mike previously told us that he came to work here because he already loved the home and the residents. (Which was very clear to see)

Mike was promoted to Maintenance Manager last year and he has done a fantastic job in ensuring all areas of the home and gardens are maintained to a five-star standard. He loved getting to know the residents and getting involved in projects such as creating a wildlife garden and making accessories and equipment for activities and events. He would always take part in themed days, get dressed up and do so much that was out of the usual remit for a Maintenance Manager.

He said the favourite part of his job was taking the residents out on trips and he loved the fact that every day was different.

We have been inundated by messages and offers of support for Thelma and her family.

We have set up this page for those that may wish to donate towards Mike’s funeral or assist with other costs that have occurred by his sudden loss.
