I'm doing fundraising to purchase a new motorized wheelchair for myself.

My current wheelchair is 16 years old and have long been discontinued. The chance of it breaking down is increasing rapidly. Finding replacement parts is a problem.
If my wheelchair breaks down, I’ll be incapacitated and reliant on others to move around. I won’t have the freedom to get around and it will also affect my health and well being.

Unfortunately, the cost of a new wheelchair is beyond my reach and therefore I am reaching out for assistance. A new wheelchair which have the basic functions I require, will currently cost about R240,000 (£13,000). Yes, it is more than a new small car.

Thus, raising funds for a new wheelchair is important for my health and basic freedom to move around.

The wheelchair I need should have power tilt-in-space (tilt the seat) and recline for the backrest to relieve pressure on my body, spine and organs.
Being unable to re-position myself makes me susceptible to pressure sores, which can leave me bed ridden for days, weeks or even months. A wheelchair that allows me to tilt the seat forward / backwards and recline the backrest up/down allows me to relieve the pressure on my body and reduce the chance of pressure sores. It also allows me to sit in a more comfortable manner depending on my position and the terrain.
The wheelchair must also have a chin control to allow me to operate the wheelchair, because I can’t use my arms and hands. The chin control allows me to ride my wheelchair in any direction as well as tilt and recline the seat.
A new motorized wheelchair will not only benefit my health, but also give me freedom to go out with friends for walks along the beach front, out and about and enjoy life to its fullest.
