I've raised £1000 to support a remarkable community in building a school for their wonderful kids in a poor, rural area of Kenya.

My family and I are seeking your help in building a primary school in a poor, rural area of Kenya, for which my daughters have started a fundraising club called the "Rafiki (friends) Club" at their own school where we live.
The school was established by the remarkable local community, who want to give their children the chance to change their lives through education - the only feasible way to do so for people in their circumstances. The school will save the very youngest of the kids (just four and five years old) from having to walk 10 kilometres every day over rough terrain and, often, in baking hot weather to the nearest other school in the area.
As we have seen during our visits, the people of this community are astonishing. Though caught in conditions of severe poverty, where producing enough food to survive on is a constant challenge, they are rich in spirit, togetherness and determination to improve the life chances of their children.
On our most recent trip, we saw the people there working incredibly hard with only basic hand tools to dig the foundations for a new classroom in a single day, despite the difficult weather conditions. They are well organised too, with a clear vision for why they are building the school and what they would like it to achieve.
Providing all of the planning and physical labour required is the huge contribution the people of the village are making to building their children's school. Our role is to provide the funds to buy the building materials they need.
Amongst these children are potential doctors, engineers, teachers and many other contributors to society. But without education they are unlikely to escape a life of, at best, hardscrabble subsistence farming and precarious, poorly paid manual labour.
Please look at the photos on these pages of the bright and wonderful children of this community. And realise that your donation will help them to realise their potential and transform the lives of some great people. Thank you.
