Story

“Frozen to the core in 2024” challenge:

As last year I wanted to set myself a challenge for the year ahead and at the same time try to raise some money for a good cause.

With the upcoming crisis facing dog rescues in the UK due to the new laws on XL bully breeds I am opting to raise money this year for Lainy’s rescue, Northamptonshire. Lainy’s rescue has for years taken in dogs that were hard to rehome or would otherwise have been put to sleep and I know will have a tough year ahead taking in more dogs being abandoned because of how they look and through no fault of their own. They work through a network of foster homes, to whom they offer support to house dogs in order to socialise them, train them and most importantly show them some love so they can have a second chance at a happy life with a loving forever family. We have been lucky to adopt our last 3 dogs through Lainy’s:

Willow - who had been so overbred by a backyard breeder that she had horrendous untreated mastitis that became breast cancer. We had 18 wonderful months with her and full of her love before she succumbed.

Wilson - our Heinz 57 terrier who was found at 9 weeks near a traveller encampment wet through and terrified. He is the most loving and playful boy - albeit with a slight napoleon complex.

Charlie - our huge Lab-retreiver, with dodgy hips, who was surrendered and is scared of laminate floors and his own shadow - but has been the most wonderful school dog, bringing calm to children with Autism and SEMH issues and our home for the past 3 years.

In 2024 I will be doing 100 cold ‘dips’, swims and showers in pools, lakes, rivers, plunge pools and showers. I will be fundraising throughout the year and will put out a few reminders here and there. If you can donate a tiny amount (and gift aid if eligible) you can be part of saving the lives of dogs and giving them a new chance at life, all whilst staying warm and dry. Thank you in advance for any contributions or shares you can give. Emily
