    Story

Becky, like all of us, wants to be able to lead an active independent life. She wants to be able to go to work, take her assistance dog Gino for a walk, ride with Cotswold Riding for the disabled, sing in a choir and be able to maintain her level of dignity by being able to attend to her personal needs by herself. Unfortunately, after several falls and hospital stays she has been told that her home and workplace aren't suitable for her to use safely alone. The medical profession say, that as a result of years of making do and managing unsuitable conditions, her body can no longer stand the strain. Cerebral Palsy means she has no strength in one-half of her body so when the other half is out of action Becky is helpless to remain independent. She is currently in hospital having to learn to weight bare again due to the damage on her good side that she relies on. Her current chair does not allow her to sit properly or transfer unaided meaning Becky now has to have someone around to assist her in anything that she does. Her basic independence has gone and she is worried that she won't get this back.

But with a new specially adapted wheelchair, Becky could overcome all these barriers. The chair we are trying to fundraise for is a Chasswheel Four X DL, it has four motors which power each wheel separately and the split diff axles allow for navigation of higher or rough ground and even larger stones or steps. It is a high-end piece of equipment but it will truly allow Becky to regain her independence and have a more active lifestyle. The wonder of this chair is that it could also allow moments where she will be able to stand, allowing Becky to have enhanced blood circulation, easier breathing and a reduction of spasticity and contractures. Her dream of standing in her choir and singing up right next to her peers could be a reality. This chair could even allow her to take Gino for a walk into woodland or onto a beach, something she has never been able to do.

19247923_1827251977290927_5543493066818652773_n.jpg Here is the exciting progress report we have all been waiting for! ......This is Becky's chair being made. The lovely Chris from mybility is making the chair although we are still hoping for £5500 funding to come in. We have applied to grants and foundations for the remainder of the fund's but have not heard anything back from them yet. We hope that a final fundraising concert in October will be able to make up the last amount needed to get the chair for Christmas. Thanks again.

You are all amazing! We have now enough money to put a deposit down for the multi terrain chair. We also have two donations that are paying the supplier directly so the grand total since we started is nearly £15000! The entire chair and assesories is £18995 but we are hoping some grant applications we have put in for will be successful, so keep your fingers crossed. A huge thank you again and we will keep you up to date and let you know when it becomes a reality. Xxx

This must be worth at least £939. Please dig deep or pass on to someone who won't miss a few pounds. Thanks

If I could give more I would, I understand the target has increased to £18000 maybe it would be a good idea to change the target on here also so that no one thinks that the target has been reached.

I met Becky when she was just 16 years old. I was her teacher and she was a quiet shy young lady with little belief in herself. But against all odds, she grew into a strong young woman who has gained independence through hard work and determination. I would hate to see that lost.
