Rufus is a now 6 month old Staffie Jack Russell cross. Who has had the most terrible start to his life. At 6 weeks old he was signed over into the care of the RSPCA by his previous owners. When he was signed over he had an injury to one of his front legs the vets took the decision that the only option for him was to amputate the remains of his leg to prevent recurring and potentially fatal infection.
I became Rufus’ foster human when he was just 7 weeks old, and very shortly after the vets removed the remains of his leg. Although it is not known how the original injury occurred, the opinion of the vets is that the wound looked almost surgical and was more than likely as a result of a deliberate act.
Rufus is a lovely little character with a heart of gold. From the moment I met him there was never any doubt that he had found his forever home with me and my two other dogs. He loves nothing more than meeting new people and getting lots of fuss and cuddles from everyone he meets. He is doing really well and manages to get around very well on 3 legs, with some occasional help from his chin!
The increased strain is starting to take its toll on his remaining front leg and spine, and despite his enthusiasm he struggles to walk very far. Up to now I have been using a pushchair to take him on longer walks but he is now getting too big for it.
What this lovely, lively little guy needs is a custom made set of wheels, so he can live his life to the full. Unfortunately, this doesn’t come cheap and I am not in a position to be able to fund this all myself. Please please help by giving anything you can. This lovely little chap deserves to be able to run with his friends.
