Giles was diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme (stage four brain tumour) in April 2015. Since then he has had two operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Whilst the tumour was kept in check for about a year it has now started to grow again and the chemotherapy is not helping. The hospital oncologist has no more treatment to give but referred Giles to Professor Dalgleish, a very respected doctor, who has put him on a treatment called Low Dose Naltrexone which is supposed to boost the immune system and hopefully cause cancer cell death. Professor Dalgleish in turn has recommended a private clinic which offers a pioneering treatment which could extend Giles' life and improve the quality of his life. This treatment will cost about £3,000 over the first month or two and then will be approximately £1,200 per month to maintain.
We know that this illness cannot be cured but it would just be so lovely for Giles to have a bit more time and to be more active during the time he has left, to be more independent and to spend his time in a more fulfilling way. At the moment he can't really do much for himself, he needs a certain amount of help with getting dressed, eating, walking etc and spends much of his time sleeping on the sofa. With this treatment he could regain some of these abilities.
