Imagine being told you have a diabetes, a disease that now requires you to change your whole lifestyle, what you eat and drink, exercise, driving, even your plans for starting a family. You are overloaded with information and medication and sent home to continue your life with a set of rules to follow. Lots of people go into denial and do not look after themselves properly, they experience shock, wonder why them, feel like their life is over and struggle to see how they can cope with a whole new lifestyle.

My partner has experienced 18 years of type 1 diabetes with no psychological support. She has been in denial, resulting in poor self care, she has planned for pregnancy and experienced the heartache of when things go wrong, she has studied the science behind diabetes to improve her self control but through all of this the emotional side has never been addressed. At this stage in her life things are going well and we have a healthy son and she now wants to help others who are experiencing what she has.

Can you help her fund a counselling course from level 2 to level 4 diploma to enable her to set up a FREE service to support people with diabetes in managing their feelings?
