Story
Gorebridge has a proud mining heritage and is the only local ex mining community which does not have a memorial to acknowledge the true cost of coal and the contribution of the 120+ men, women and children who lost their lives in various mining incidents and accidents across the 3 mines which operated from 1858 until 1962.
Our efforts to build a memorial can’t take effect unless we have the support of everyone in our community and Gorebridge Community Council are keen to obtain funding to do this and hoped that locals and those with a local or mining connection to Gorebridge might be able to support this venture by making a donation.
We would like to thank you in advance for your support, your donation is greatly appreciated and it will be used to enable us to instruct a local firm to design and build a black granite memorial complete with all the names.
