    Story

Gregg is my sports mad 15 year old son, who was born with Cerebral Palsy and as a result, is confined to a wheelchair. His main passion is football and he has been hooked on powerchair football since the first time he played it 8 years ago. It is addictive, competitive and great fun.

Powerchair football is played by teams of four, including a goalkeeper, on a specifically marked standard sized basketball court, with players using electric wheelchairs fitted with footguards to attack, defend and “kick” the oversized football.

He has played for Brighton and Hove Albion PFC in the national league for a number of years, and recently was fortunate to play in the European club championships.
He is also a founding member of Portsmouth Powerchair Football club, currently captaining the team in the South East England regional league.

He currently uses an adapted ‘everyday’ powerchair to play the game, however the sport in the UK has been revolutionised this season by the introduction of the first football specific ‘custom built’ powerchair called a 'Strike force'.

The ‘Strike force’ chair out performs any other wheelchair used in the sport, as it can accelerate, spin and react quicker allowing for the ball to be ‘kicked’ harder and faster. These capabilities are now needed to play the sport at the highest level.

The cost of the new powerchair is £7,500 and we are hoping to raise this amount to allow him to purchase one. This will allow him to develop his skills and abilities to their maximum and continue to compete nationally and, hopefully, internationally.

Any help we receive will be greatly appreciated.
