Weʼve raised £390 to Gru spent 3 weeks in the ICU @ AHT having life saving treatment after contracting Leptospirosis, resulting in Liver & Kidney failure.

    Story

We've a bit of a way still to go to reach our target, but we'd like to thank each and everyone of you who have sent us your heartfelt good wishes & very generous donations. There is still time to donate & help Gru.
8 month old Basset Hound Puppy Gru was rushed to the intensive care unit at The Animal Health Trust Newmarket with Liver & Kidney Failure, after contracting Leptospirosis & it was later discovered an Intussusception in the intestine, they didn't hold out much hope that she'd survive. Gru battled through a major Op for the intussusception and thanks to the dedication of the staff in the ICU and against all the odds made a great recovery from both the surgery & the Leptospirosis, only then to be struck down with a nasty urinary track infection. After 3 long weeks in the ICU Gru was finally allowed home.
We do not normally ask for help or hand outs, it's not our style, we'd rather find a way or sell something, but we have used every penny of our savings (£6,500) on her treatment so far, the bill is now over £10,000 and as Gru's care is still ongoing the bill is still rising. We have nothing left in the bank or to sell and are at our wits end, especially now, with Simon being signed off of work for the next 6 weeks after breaking his arm in a car crash.
We have helped & advised many with their Basset Related Problems, helped financially, physically & emotionally, taken in unwanted hounds for a variety of reasons & at our own expense, never judging why, helped other breeders to get established when no-one else would, watching from the sidelines as their show careers flourished. We have done all these things out of the kindness of our hearts, and for the the welfare of the breed, expecting & wanting nothing in return, we would help anyone who truly needed it without a thought for ourselves or any hardships it might put on us. But now we ourselves desperately need your help and hope that you will show us the same kindness to help us & Gru in our hour of need.

Gru is making fantastic progress, but will still need more treatment over the coming months & regular check ups to monitor her Liver & Kidney functions for the rest of her life. Although this appeal is coming to an end, There is still time to donate & help towards Gru's continued treatment..... Thank you all so very much..xxx

Gru has continued to make great progress at home. She is now back on her usual food & eating normally. The weight is beginning to come back and she is losing that skinny dog look. We have just over 1 week to go with the pills & potions before her scheduled check up back at the AHT. We've a bit of a way still to go to reach our target, but we'd like to thank each and everyone of you who sent us your heartfelt good wishes & your generous donations. xxx

Gru continues to make good progress, her whole demeanour changed the minute she came through the door, her eyes brightened and her tail started to wag. We have dispensed with the feeding tube, it was more of a hindrance than a help, and Gru is happy to tuck into her food from her bowl. The scar from the Intussusception operation is healing very well & we are chuffed to bits with how things are going. Gru's adorable, heart stealing cheeky personality has never waned despite all she's been through & we thank the AHT for giving us our old Gru back
