Story
On the 3rd/4th September we will be treking 100km (63 miles!) to raise money to purchase a food technology work station. We currently have no cooking facilities at the school and this will be a great asset enabling all the children to access the curriculum.
We have funded the trek ourselves so ALL money raised will go to the school.
We start early on the Saturday and keep walking until we finish! There will be checkpoints approx every 12–16km with water juices and snacks. We are advised to stop for no more than 10 minutes as our muscles may start to seize up which will make it a lot harder to get going again and it will be increasingly difficult to reach each checkpoint before the close time.
The walk will include some stunning climbs, including the moorland plateau, Kinder Scout. Part of the moor at 636 metres (2,087 ft), is the highest point in the Peak District, the highest point in Derbyshire and the highest point in the East Midlands !
We have been training hard and you may have seen us walking around the village with our backpacks on. We have also been training some weekends in the Peak District.
ROUTE:
We leave the Event Village and head straight through Castleton. We will then get a feel of the beautiful Peak District countryside as we arrive at Hollins Cross, followed by walking through Edale. As we exit Edale we join the Pennine Way which will lead us up and over Kinder Scout. Once we have summited we will descend into Hayfield before following distinguished paths until we reach Peak Forest. The next bit of the route is along quiet country roads and through small villages in the Peak District before reaching the magnificent Ladybower Reservoir. At the Dam by Fariholmes we commence a beautiful section of the route, around the Derwent Reservoir. This section at night, lit by head torches, is beautifully eerie. After returning back to Fairholmes, we cross the Dam and return to Hope along country roads and back to the Event Village.
