Story

We need your help to help us to continue to serve our area.

Harborough FM is a Community Radio Service for Market Harborough, South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire. We run as not for profit and the vast majority of our work is carried out by a dedicated team of volunteers. As one of the country’s first full time community stations, we pride ourselves in our outreach activities. For many years HFM's activities have involved getting out and about into the community. We have built strong bonds with many local groups and organisations and as a result we - together with our stage trailer - are regular attendees at events such as Harborough Carnival, Christmas Fayre, Summer Fayre, Harborough Christmas lights switch-ons, Kibworth Christmas events, Ukraine Fundraisers, Wigston lights, Husbands Bosworth events and County Shows to name just a few. For these events, we have a mobile stage / trailer unit from which we would typically provide outside broadcasts, sound for local bands, public announcements, performances or arena hosting activities.

Our unit is currently towed by our trusty 22 year old Ford Focus. Despite giving sterling service and enabling us to attend many hundreds of local events over the years, the vehicle is now in desperate need of replacement. We find ourselves needing to purchase a replacement vehicle - capable of transporting our outside unit, so that we can continue to enable local groups and organisations to make use of our facilities and in turn enabling the community to enjoy outside events. We strongly believe that – even more so post covid lock-downs - that the community gain great benefit – both physically and mentally by being able to attend such events.

Our existing vehicle owes us nothing - but is now unreliable and in desperate need of replacement. Community Radio stations are run on a very tight budget. We rely on grants, donations and fundraising in order to survive. Although we manage to generate enough income to meet our day to day running costs, the cost to replace the car would be extremely difficult for us and would place huge financial strain upon the station.

To fund a suitable replacement, we need to raise a total of £15,000. Having recognised the value that Harborough FM bring to the community - year in year out - local charity The Howard Watson Symington Memorial Charity have very generously offered to fund half of this amount - provided that the community can fund the remaining £7,500.

Harborough FM have been serving our community since 1995. With your help, we can continue to do so for many years to come.
