    Story

Haringey Council’s Cabinet leadership is seeking to transfer the ownership and rights over its public assets and property to a partnership with Lendlease, a multinational corporate developer with a very chequered history, based in Australia. Several similar public-private deals elsewhere in the UK, on a much smaller scale, have already failed. As a consequence, their liquidation has led to major losses for both local authorities and rate-payers. Despite this, the Cabinet intends to complete a highly risky deal with Lendlease to establish the Haringey Development Vehicle (HDV) which will involve the disposal of Council homes, community buildings, and commercial property worth more than £2 billion. We must stop this now while there is still time.
We have successfully raised £4,000 (heartfelt thanks to those who contributed) to meet the costs of a Pre-Action Letter warning the Leader of Haringey Council that if she and her inner Cabinet persist with their decision to transfer public assets to the Haringey Development Vehicle with Lendlease as the exclusive partner, then we shall have to consider Judicial Review. Now, as part of the growing campaign to stop the Haringey Development Vehicle, we urgently need to continue to raise money for the next stage of legal action. Going to the High Court could cost as much as £25,000. Our lawyers, Leigh Day however, believe we have a very strong case. Pledges from individuals as well as organisations will all help. If we fail to raise these monies, we risk having to stand by and witness the biggest sell-off of local authority assets in U.K. history.
