Story
My father-in-law, the sculptor Oscar Nemon came to England as Jewish refugee in the late 1930s. He lived and sculpted on Boars Hill near Oxford until his death in 1985. During this time his sculptures of Sir Winston Churchill were placed all over the world including in the Members' Lobby of the House of Commons. His sculpture of Freud stands in Hampstead, London. Nemon lost his mother, brother and grandmother and many family members to the Holocaust. His memorial to them, and all those who lost their lives in World War II, is called 'Humanity'. It shows a mother raising her child to the future in defiance of hatred. A bronze of this sculpture has stood in Osijek in Croatia since 1967. While he was alive Nemon had the plaster of 'Humanity' in his wild garden at Pleasant Land on Boars Hill. Now his Studio Museum and Archive are opening to the public at Pleasant Land I am raising money to cast 'Humanity' for the garden in bronze - so everyone who visits can see it and celebrate the life Oscar Nemon made in defiance of loss and death. If you would like to know more about Oscar Nemon please visit our website on www.oscarnemon.org.uk. Visits can be booked via the website.

I am Oscar Nemon's daughter-in-law. Before Nemon's son, my late husband Falcon, died in 2002 I told him I would make a museum of his father's works in Nemon's Studio. It has taken fifteen years - but we are opening on 13 & 14 May, the for booked visits via www.oscarnemon.org.uk
