Story
My friend Illona Mitchell went to tend to her dogs and horses yesterday morning only to find that someone had been up to her land during the night and shot all her dogs.
Some had been shot at the doors of their pens as they had gone to greet the strangers and other were shot in their beds as they cowered scared.
Her youngest horse, Rocco is only 4 years old and he has been beaten so badly the vet is battling to save his eye.
The young horse is so stressed from the ordeal that the vet cannot get near him. The vet is trying not to push him or restrain him with force to inject him with sedatives and antibiotics as he will freak out and lose the plot completely. It's possible if he is pushed too far now that he may never be right again, rendering him broken and dangerous.
It is believed that the eye is beyond help but only time will tell.
Please help to raise funds for this family and their animals.

7 years agoRocco's eye has improved, however, he is still very stressed and can be quite dangerous to handle. His eye is still only two thirds open and looks damaged. It's stopped weeping as much and clear tears continue to trickle from the eye. He's still on strong painkillers and antibiotics and just each day as it comes.

7 years agoSome good news at last, yesterday Rocco's eye was slightly open, but today much better. He allowed his face to be touched! The eye appears to be white, but we're hoping this is scar tissue and in time will clear.

7 years agoNot a good day for Rocco yesterday very unsettled, during the night he wrecked his stable door, maybe as his eye is getting a little better, the shock is setting in. Last night people set off fire bangers in Caniles the start of the celebrations for San Sebastian, it's possible that he heard them and got scared. Yesterday he was moved to another stable next to Bella, in hope that with company and her calming influence he'll settle better.

Horrified to read your story in Dog World - a small donation herewith, which I hope may be of some help. Hope the lovely horse and the remaining dogs make a good recovery from their terrible trauma.

I hope that poor horse recovers properly and that you try and keep him in a safer place if possible. Those people are low life dirty scum and I hope they get punished for this. Unbelievable!

So sorry to hear of your losses at the hands of these thugs. Don't know why they're allowed to keep getting away with such atrocious behaviour. I feel for your sorrow.
