What is crowdfunding?

Story
Jack Harrison MC/VC was a hero, on the rugby pitch and on the battlefield.
He helped win Hull FC’s first Challenge Cup in 1914, and scored 52 tries in the 1914/15 season, a club record to this day.
Despite being in a reserved occupation as a teacher, he insisted on fighting for King and Country in World War 1. He led his platoon from the East Yorkshire Regiment into no-man’s land, at Oppy Wood on 3rd May 1917. They were pinned down by heavy machine-gun and rifle fire. He made a single-handed dash, and died as he knocked out the machine gun. His body was never found.
For this act of selfless bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. A hundred years later, we wish to raise a statue to him at the Cenotaph in Hull City Centre, as a tribute to sacrifice.

Great idea. I visited the Oppy Wood site where he was killed in October this year to pay my respects. He is a true hero from our wonderful City who should always be remembered.

I'm not from Hull, but have lived on Hessle Road for years, fascinated by Hull's distinctive traditions. My passtime is writing. This is about an East Hull lad who made good for Hull FC in West Hull, and died for his country. I hope the whole city will respond.
