Mains Power in Andhra Pradesh, India is not reliable, especially in areas outside of towns. Our Shanti Nivas campus, a few miles from Vizianagaram is one such area.
The site houses the Brighter Future International Trust Hospice, as well as children's homes for orphaned children who are HIV positive, and seperately a home for destitute mothers, we are also currently expanding the children's homes on the site.
It is a large site in a remote area, so a loss of power is a frightening experience for the children and a potentially catastrophic event for patients in the hospice, and for the storage of medicines.
If we can install a solar power off-grid system, they will be virtually independent of the unreliable mains power in the area, and the resultant savings (from energy bills and emergency generator costs) will be sufficient to cover the running costs of the hospice, a significant benefit in many different ways to the charity.
Brighter Future International Trust cares for children and adults who have no means of support and are suffering either from HIV/AIDS or Leprosy, they have been brought to us, or found by us, neglected and malnourished, often with serious medical problems, but with the support of UK sponsors they are given a positive future, have their medical needs covered, and they are sent to local schools, we even have 4 at university, also some are given training skills within our organisation enabling them to be self supporting in adulthood.
