Story

Jane Marsh has entered the London Landmarks Half Marathon on the 7th April and has decided to dedicate her run to raise awareness and monies so that the Benevolent Fund can continue to support the amazing police dog pensioners in the West Midlands. The training has been hard as Jane had a baby in July 2023 but knowing she was running for these retired dogs that kept us safe whilst we slept at night and put themselves in danger to protect the public on a daily basis made it all worth while.

Jane and her husband love their dogs. Jane’s husband Darryl is a long standing dog handler and together they have always taken ownership of his dogs on retirement and have been grateful for the support of the Benevolent Fund with regards to veterinary costs.

Retired police dogs do not receive any ongoing financial support from the Police Force and the cost of keeping them and paying for vets bills falls to the handler or the new adopter. Because of the work undertaken by the police dogs it is difficult and sometimes impossible to obtain medical insurance cover in retirement.

The Retired WMP Dog Benevolent Fund helps pay for the ongoing care and treatment of retired police dogs. It is completely independent from the Police Force and is dedicated to helping those looking after the dogs following a working life serving and protecting communities. All monies raised by the Fund is spent on the dogs’ care.
