In 1963 the plea of a dying mother that her children should be cared for was the birth of St Anthony's Children's Centre. Over the years St Anthony's has supported hundreds of children and currently is home to 86 children aged 0-18 who are orphaned, abandoned, neglected, abused, HIV/AIDS affected or infected. Children are cared for in a family atmosphere and provided with education and skills to become successful, independent young adults. Where possible and safe to do so, children are reunited with birth families or placed in foster care, with staff from St Anthony's providing ongoing outreach support in the community. Our association with St Anthony's spans more than 25 years. Marie lived in St Anthony's for a year while teaching in nearby Madadeni. St Anthony's is in need of 55 new beds so that children feel safe, comfortable and cared for.
