    Story

This page is for donations (instead of flowers or other tributes) to the African Womens Development Fund following the recent passing of one of its founder members Joana Foster on 5th Novemeber 2016. Joana, in the many tributes, has been described as an iconand leading advocate for social justice and women’s rights. http://awdf.org/farewell-to-joanna-foster/

In order to promote and maintain her legacy and to continue the good work of The African Womens Development Fund (AWDF). We, the family, have opted to request based on her wishes that, instead of flowers etc, that people instead donate to AWDF http://awdf.org/

Any donations will go towards their work, which includes things like supporting both established and small, locally based women’s organisations. They also provide specialised funding to facilitate learning and networking opportunities and to celebrate the contributions and achievements of many un-sung African heroines.

Here are some of their key focuses and strategic priorities:

A grant making process that is uniquely designed to meet the needs of African women.
Providing multi-year funding, technical assistance, institutional development to African women-led organisations.
Challenging harmful and stereotypical depictions of African women.
Amplifying a unique feminist voice and praxis.
Funding emergency response initiatives, including the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, and Ebola education and sanitation efforts in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Generating innovative development models for movement-building with multiple national feminist forums in Africa.
Solidifying a diverse series of partnerships and collaborations at national, regional and local levels.
Creating an Endowment fund to promote organisational autonomy and sustainability.
Supporting key development processes and maintaining a strong voice
