    Story

After just finishing sixth form, excited to embark on the next chapter of life, by starting at the University of Coventry to study Automotive and Transportation Design. However, just three months before I was due to start university, whilst on holiday in Spain, I had a life changing accident. I was paralysed from the chest down, suffering a C6/C7 fracture (broken neck). After spending 2.5 weeks in ICU in Mallorca, I was airlifted to Preston Royal then transferred toSouthport Spinal Unit, where my rehabilitation programme began. I was informed by doctors there was a chance I may never walk again.

After following an intense recovery programme & determination (which has spanned over two years and is still ongoing) I began to walk. I was determined to play sport again. Sport was an integral part of my everyday life, I regularly played rugby, football, cricket, hockey, these sports unfortunately are ruled out. Having been an avid skier from an early age, a dream of mine was to be able to get back on the slopes, & ski again with family and friends.

With standard skiing an impossibility, I discovered sit-skiing. So travelled to Poland in January of this year for my first taste of the sport. After a week of coaching, remarkably I picked-up the basics and was able to ski independently again. Continuing to train weekly at the Chill Factore in Manchester, I was spotted by a Team GB talent coach. I attended my first International Paralympic Committee Alpine Skiing event in Landgraaf, Netherlands at the beginning of November. I was classified & competed in my first competitive race, representing Team GB Para snow-sports, with just six months of experience. My goal is now to compete in the 2022 Winter Paralympics in China. However, in order for my progress to continue within the team some form of funding is desperately needed to boost my chances for success, due to no funding until a podium finishing athlete.

The money will be used to help with the costs of the Team GB training camps (accommodation, coaching, lift passes), travel & equipment as no funding is available through U.K. Sport. Camps with Team GB can cost upwards of £1,200. Josh Landmann, 22 years.
