A Sudanese friend of mine, living in The Jungle told me once, after he served me most delicious Sudanese cuisine and a sugary chai, "In Sudan we say: Onions are to a meal what legs are to a woman."

The proper amount of Onion decides the quality of the dish as a proper leg length is decisive for a womens beauty.

After I decided not to be offended in my smallness, I learned a lot about the traditional food of his homecountry and how the Onion is one if the most important ingredient.

In a grim place like the Jungle we try to bring some sense normalcy by providing people with the means to prepare meals for themselves. We bring basic items once a week: Tinned tomatos, fish, beans, chickpeas, vegetables, rice, lentils, milk, oil, biscuits, spice, garlic and onion.

While we are very happy to see that people seem to be ok with the amount of most of the things we bring, we are continously asked for more Onions. In a Bag for five people, which is supposed to last for one week we can only pack 4-5 Onions. That does not last long.

Now, we have a miracle- wonderful- rainbow- pile of Onions waiting for us in the South of Paris.

Basically we could get a Van-load full of Onions for free every week!

That's FANTASTIC!

However, we need the funds to cover the petrol costs for the three hour trip back and forth.

With the amount of Onions that we would have available we could not only supply the people in the camp with more Onions but could also support the kitchens that offer hot food every day in Calais and Dunkirk.

This would take one big worry off of our shoulders, tears, literally, into many Eyes.... also it supplies me with more delicous Jungle Cuisine- Nom!
