Story

Three women, three charities, 3000 miles of Ocean...

In December 2026, Meg, Olivia and Jenna will take on the World's Toughest Row. Upon their departure from La Gomera, the team will row in continuous shifts of two hours for the duration of the 3000 mile race across the Atlantic Ocean to Antigua. Throughout their crossing, the team will battle sleep deprivation; waves reaching up to 20ft and shark infested waters.

But, why?

The most common question presented to our team is "why do you want to subject yourself to that?". Given that this is one of the most demanding physical challenges that can be taken on, that is a valid question. However, the team is fuelled by a shared desire to make a difference in our own communities.

Olivia's desire to row across the Atlantic Ocean stems from her wish to honour the memory of her childhood friend, Luke Stevens, and fundraise for the Howden- based charity A Shining Light . A fortnight before Christmas in 2019, Luke was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Despite the best efforts of the Leeds and Newcastle teenage cancer units, where Luke was treated, he unfortunately passed away in June 2021. A Shining Light was then set up in his memory and fundraises to support the work of the wards where Luke received treatment.

Having already cycled the length of the UK for her charity, Jenna is no stranger to undertaking a monumental challenge for the charity that is closest to her heart. Forest Holme Hospice is a small Dorset charity that provides end of life care. They offer palliative care for adults with serious illness, while also offering crucial support to friends and family throughout the treatment and bereavement process. Jenna has seen first hand the vital care they provide as Forest Holme cared for her Godmother and Grandmother in their final days.

For Meg, rowing the Atlantic isn’t just about the challenge — it’s a chance to give back to a cause close to her heart. She’s raising money for Best Mates, a Swindon-based charity that offers something we all need during tough times: someone who truly understands. Meg knows how important it is to have a support network around you — but not everyone has that. Best Mates steps in to pair people with someone who’s been in their shoes and made it through. From mental health struggles to financial hardship, their peer-led support changes lives in a real, personal way.

How will your support help us?

Undertaking this challenge comes with a high financial cost. The team need to secure funding for our boat; equipment; courses and kit. By choosing to support our team, you help us get one step closer to the start line in La Gomera.
