Story

A landlord reached out to us in December 2022, unfortunately, they had to make the decision to repossess a house they had been renting. Once repossessed they discovered that the property was over run with 16 cats which had all been abandoned by their owners. As no one was at the property they were not being fed and it became an animal welfare case which meant the RSPCA became involved and removed 13 cats from the property. For some reason, there were 3 cats left at the property and they remained there for another two months until the landlord reached out to us again, they were desperate to find them a place as they did not want to let them out the property, where they had been living as indoor cats, or put them down. We took the three remaining cats in on the 8th February 2023.

Immediately, they were all scanned for chips and Jess was the only one with a microchip which gave us her name. We noticed straight away that she was having difficulty with her breathing and was sneezing. We saw these as signs of cat flu and we took her to the vet to be treated. She remained quarantined in the garage while Peppa and Zoe were brought in the house. The initial course of antibiotics did not touch her symptoms and she had a cracked tooth so she came off the antibiotics in order to have a dental operation and for her cracked canine to be removed.

After dental surgery Jess was moved into the bathroom but her symptoms did not get any better. She has had various courses of antibiotics and steroids but nothing helped and she continued to have an extremely bad build up of mucus which she would sneeze around the whole room.Mucus tests revealed 4 strains of bacteria and the antibiotics cleared 3 of them but 1 remained.

After struggling to find an answer we received help from Powys Animal Welfare who booked us in for a second opinion at their vet. Jess was there for 2 minutes when it was discovered that she had a whole in the roof of her mouth. Although, we have found more of an explanation as to what is going on Jess still needs a CT scan and rhinoscopy from a specialist vet in order to discover the cause of this hole so we are urgently appealing for help from our supporters.

Recently we had a Facebook post go viral and we really need the same for our dear Jess. We have never given up on this girl because she is the friendliest cat we have in our entire house. She has suffered through 5 months of segregation because of this when all she really wants is love and affection. She sits on our laps, does not stop purring and talking to us whenever we spend time with us. She jumps up for strokes and head bumps and almost jumps into your arms for cuddles. She is desperate for a normal life and deserves for her problems to be fixed so she can move on to a loving home and live the rest of her life. It is so disheartening because she used to greet us at the door and now she is just lays in her bed as if she has given up. Cats here are treated a part of our family and usually come out and spend time with us as a family but we can not risk the spreading of this infection.
