    Story

MND is a rare, life-shortening disease and there is no cure. (ALS) is the type of MND where the muscles that enable you to walk, speak & breathe, weaken & waste away. You may have heard this described as “locked in” as your body is essentially paralysed.

Many of you may know Karen. From LSA High, Bradford & Bingley days, working at Waterloo Primary Academy in Blackpool, or just living locally in Lytham St Annes.
Andy, Keiron & I feel lucky to say Karen is like family.

Our fun loving friend, Karen Martin (Hill) was born and lives in Lytham St Anne’s. Karen is 49 years old, a wife and mum to 3 amazing kids. The photo above is just before she was diagnosed with MND less than 2 years ago. Karen was a keen climber and fitness was a big part of her life.
Following a climbing accident, Karen was concerned as she was struggling with the strength in her arm. In her true gritty style she increased her gym sessions and worked hard to strengthen her muscles however due to further deterioration was referred to a neurologist who later diagnosed Karen with MND.

Karen has now lost the ability to walk, the use of her arms, her breathing has become more difficult and her speech has deteriorated. However this does not stop Karen or her family wanting to continue to live life to the full.

Karen now has a motorised chair, which enables her to move about in her home, however her home requires so many adaptions. More importantly her family need a disability van with ramps that can accommodate her mobility chair so they can all go out together.

MND impacts everyone in the family. For Karen, its the frustration of no longer being able to look after herself. For her husband and children, there are overwhelming changes they need to make to adapt.

Your money will help in so many ways. Please help us to raise this much-needed money to support her and her family.

Just wanted to let all the lovely kind people that donated, know that the money we raised together has made such a difference in helping with so many improvements to make life that little bit easier. Karen and her family now have their much needed mobility van and this is allowing Karen to get out and about. Her downstairs bathroom is well in progress and will give her wheelchair access. Karen would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every person that helped and supported her with the many adaptions that have been made to her home. Thank you
