Story

In October this year (2016) our gorgeous boy Kasper was diagnosed with type T lymphoma cancer just weeks before his sixth birthday.

Unfortunately we don't have any insurance and have been paying his vet bills for the last month and a half, currently totalling just over £2000.

His cycle of treatment is a weekly dose of chemo, coming in the form of an injection at our local vets, chemo tablets at home the following week, another injection the week after and then a chemo infusion (drip) at a specialist cancer Vets, who are some 60 mile round trip from us.

His whole course is set to run for six months and so far his lymph nodes have reduced massively to there original 'golf ball' sized lumps and he's doing really well.

On top of the vet bills and time off from work, which myself and my partner share. My partner has also been coming home at dinner times from her work place to feed Kasper, white fish, chicken breasts and sardines for a mid day meal, to try and build his weight back up, as he had lost around 4-5kg before his treatment began.

Due to these extra efforts and his continued treatment I'm happy to report he's almost back upto his previous weight of a lean and healthy 37.5kgs ! Which is great news, as things are all going in the right direction !

Currently were a quarter the way through his treatment and current costs, minus extra cancer fighting foods, time and travel etc stand at just over £2000. At this rate it's going to cost us in the region of £6000 to complete his course.

I know everyone loves their pets, but Kasper is such a great boy, he's so clever and gentle and really doesn't deserve this (no one does!) but he has met the treatments with his usual bright personality and has so much more life to live.

If you are an animal lover, or have had a pet or family member suffer from this horrible disease, I'm asking you to please help us continue his treatment and help kick cancers butt.

Thank you for all donations X

Well after the incident last week, Kasper has NO CHEMO this week. Although this sounds good, it really isnt. Last week the vets hadnt checked his White blood cell count before administering his Chemo injection. His levels are surposed to be above 2.0 before giving him his chemo (normal white blood cell count being 5.5), last week it was 1.2 and the vets were concerned as your white blood cell count goes down, so does your immune system. So Kaspers been on antibiotics this last week to help his immune system fight off any infections.

So we called in at Tesco and picked up a digital thermometer only to get home and find out it didn't work right ! So it's been returned tonight for another model that, unfortunately for Kasper, works ! His first reading was well within the "normal" limits and he's had all his anti sickness and antibiotics (like horse tablets!) without issue this morning. They must have helped too as he still has an appetite today for his food, so all in a good day for the big guy.

So it's chemo day again for Kaspo, today it's at Pets at Home for a chemo injection and the big guy has took everything in his stride as always! One concern was that his white blood cell count was down, to well below average as a side effect of his chemo. We now need to monitor his temperature over the next few days as his immune system will be really low and open to infection. He's also on a cycle of antibiotics to aid his immune system now for the next ten days, poor lad! Next trip schedule for Friday afternoon for another blood sample.
