Keep Patricia in Cookham
‘Patricia at Cockmarsh Hill’ is the only Spencer painting of the artist’s second wife in the Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham, where it has been on loan for the last 12 years. We now have the opportunity to keep Patricia in Cookham, but ONLY if we can raise AT LEAST £20,000 before the end of 2023. Please help.
In this picture painted before their marriage, Spencer depicts Patricia in his beloved Cookham landscape, showing off her jewellery, with the artist expectantly painting in a wedding ring. It has been one of the Gallery’s most exhibited works as it supports a wide range of themes, and illustrates a crucial artistic and personal crossroad in Spencer’s life.
The Art Fund, a major charity, wants to keep Patricia in Cookham, and have already donated £130,00 towards the substantial purchase price. Another big grant giver will confirm any contribution in December, BUT we still need to raise AT LEAST £20,000 so we need to act NOW. Without your help, ‘Patricia at Cockmarsh Hill’ will go to auction in January, for sale to the highest bidder, and will be lost forever from the Gallery.
if you want to keep Patricia in Cookham, please donate TODAY and share this link with others who may help too. Thank you.
