Story
Merci and Dan here :)
Mental health is the enemy of humanity. Cycling from Land's End to John o' Groats was initially a challenge for us to aid our well-being.
During long days and weeks of training, exhausting hills in the rain, and -5 degrees, we couldn't help but think about those friends, colleagues, and loved ones who had suffered from mental health issues and were on the verge of a tragic act that would have ended their lives.
A conversation in these cases made a life-saving difference. The agony of cycling uphill over and over again was nowhere near as painful as knowing that loved ones felt like they had no one to talk to, until the very last straw.
Get The Boys a Lift held a space for us when we needed it the most, and their kindness (and delicious coffee) allowed us to hold a non-judgmental and open space for those who matter the most to us.
Who are GTBAL?
They are a non-profit organisaiton, all about smashing the stigma around mental health and being there for anyone who needs a lift, no matter who they are.
Their name might say "boys," but they are all about inclusivity and helping everyone who's struggling.
Our fundraising will help GTBAL fund counselling services, put on epic workshops, and spread the word about mental health in the community.
The donation is seriously going to make a massive difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Everything makes a difference
We have set a target of £200 which we'd love to donate to GTBAL. Life has no price tag on it. Mental health doesn't discriminate.
We'd love it for anyone who can, to support us, whether it's with a small donation, some tips, a share on social media, WhatsApp, or your work group chat, joining us for a ride for a few hours, or a chat over a cup of coffee (or a pint) before or after we're done.
The challenge will be unsupported. It's just us two, against the hills of a 1000-mile ride in 13 days. Whatever the weather.
