Story

10 Second Summary

We're doing a big ole walk to Glasgow for COP26 and to raise funds for planting trees, so every donation counts to more trees being planted :D

(Thanks for getting here and I would love if you could take the (5 minutes?) to read on, it would mean a lot to me!)

What We're Doing

Myself and my good friend Ben will be hiking over 260 miles on a 24 day trip from the city we're graduating univeristy from this year (Lancaster) to the city hosting COP26 (Glasgow).

Why We're Doing It

We'll be leaving towards the start of October so we can get there in time for COP26 in Glasgow which starts on the 1st November. The journey is going to be challenging, involving a lot of nights wild camping and long journeys through our lovely British Isles.

But as shown by the 6th IPCC Report last month, we are now more likely than not to reach 1.5C warming even under the best case scenario. It is also shown, if we take the measures necessary NOW, there is still a pathway where we can limit warming to 1.5C. It is for this reason this Convention of Parties (COP26) is regarded as our last chance.

And it is for this reason we will be in Glasgow to support the pressure placed on our world leaders to ensure it will be treated as the emergency it is.

We are taking this long, adventurous walk there to raise awareness of this and to raise funds for our chosen charity, which brings me to...

Restoring Hardknott Forest Project

The University of Leeds and Forestry England have been working together for over 17 years to restore the entire 630 hectare area. After joining them for a day trip organised by Lancaster University and helping in the restoration process in December 2019, I can attest to the quality of work they do to enable the area to flourish on its own.

How you Can Help

It is tree-planting season!

Saplings for the rarer native tree species under-represented in the area are being bought in time for this tree-planting season, but fund are limited so only so many saplings, and therefore so many trees, can be planted this season. We're talking about Alder, Crab Apple, Hawthorn, and Hazel, all of which are great for the local wildlife too!

With your donation, it means more of these trees can be planted in Hardknott Forest. Even if it is just 1p to show you support this, it would mean a lot :')

Our Route

We will be travelling roughly 260 miles by public footpaths to appreciate our lovely countries, involving popular ways such as the Dales Way, Cumbria Way, Annandale Way, and also the Kentigern Way so we can appreciate Scottish Heritage along our journey too.

Thank You!!

I just want to say thank you for taking the time to check out this sponsored hike we're doing, and every penny donated to support the tree-planting at Hardknott Forest would be so so very appreciated :)

Wishing you well,

Jamie and Ben
