Story

On September 22nd I will be taking part in the Wales 2024 Ironman! this is to raise funds for Ava & Daisy's ongoing physiotherapy. Ironman is an endurance event of 2.4mile sea swim, 112mile bike ride and a 26.2mile run to finish. This event is considered as one of the toughest Ironman courses in the world. for those who complete it, it has an average finishing time of 13 hours.

Ava was born at 26 weeks and suffered with bleeds to the brain resulting in her condition, Quadriplegic cerebral palsy. Ava has many complex need's as a result of her condition and has to attend regular hospital appointments with paediatricians, dieticians, physiotherapist's and orthopaedics. Ava will never walk unaided and is a wheelchair user. She has very high muscle tone in her legs and needs regular physio to help with spasms and cramps. If Ava doesn't receive regular professional physio, this can ultimately leave her very uncomfortable and in pain.

Daisy was a perfectly healthy little girl of 9 years of age until May 2022 she collapsed at home. She had a brain haemorrhage caused by a ruptured AVM that we had no idea she had. The bleed caused her to have a stroke which had left her weak on her left side. She was in a coma for 5 days and when she did wake up fortunately she regained all cognitive brain function however she has had to learn to walk again. She is doing amazing but she still needs regular physio to keep building strength in her left side. She also has to wear an orthotic for support as she suffers from foot drop and still has a very weak ankle and she has a length discrepancy in her legs which means she has to wear raised footwear or a wedge inside her shoe.
