A few months ago I launched a local campaign to raise £20,000 to get the existing tennis courts in the Droitwich Lido Park resurfaced and restored for the benefit of everyone in the town who wants to use them.
Tennis is a great sport and suits all ages and abilities, especially families. We have an amazing existing facility in the park but the courts are in desperate need of repair as they are becoming dangerous and unusable.
“Let's Play Tennis” was born and has really taken off in the town.
So far we have raised over £3000. This has been generated from our previous just giving page, local businesses donating money (a few examples are Nicol and Co estate agents and FFS Ltd), schools have organised fundraising events, individuals have given money and the local tennis club is on board and has organised free tennis sessions for budding new players. We have also received a grant of £1000 from Persimmon and are currently in the green coin community collection in Waitrose. The campaign also has the backing of Nigel Huddelston MP and the Mayor.
What seems to have captured people's interest is the fact that such a simple improvement could be used by so many people, probably over the next 20-25 years plus.
The total cost of this is in excess of £40,000 but the good news is that the local council have pledged 50% provided that the rest of the money can be raised.
They have also offered to advertise local businesses around the perimeter of the new courts as a big thank to those that helped.
So if you think this is a good cause and will benefit our community please help in any way you can, we still have a long way to go.
Thank you so much.
