    Story

As friends of Flick we discussed this and thought no Child, whatever their age should EVER be put in this situation....

Funerals expenses are astronomical, especially when you are the only one paying for it.

Yesterday Flick posted this as her status, it just isn't right. And hopefully we can all help a little....

If I could do one thing it would be to beg you all regardless of your age to look into two things, especially those of you that are getting older.

These are a) life insurance and b) a funeral plan. With my mum recently passing and not owning an estate and being an only child my eyes have been opened.

I am relying on her very small life insurance to give her a send off, to actually be able to say goodbye, as when looking into getting help from the state there is nothing they can do.

This is by no means a pity status more of a make people realise. So I do not earn a lot, I'm not on minimum wage but what I do earn allows me to survive with little expendable income. This is in the states eyes is too much and because I do not claim benefits. Nothing can be done. Which I think is appalling, someone however that does claim benefits would have a funeral paid towards.

When speaking to citizens advice they advised to get a loan. I am already in debt, so why should I have to put myself in more debt because my mother struggled financially?

I have people offering to pay towards the funeral and help me and it's lovely. But it should not have to come down to that. Whether it's the bank or someone I know. I am still in debt to give someone I love a final goodbye in a way they deserve.

So please do not let your loved ones suffer the same. Put something in place and let them have the chance to actually grieve. To remember you and celebrate your life in the happy times, celebrate your past, without worrying about their future.

A child should not have to deal with the stress of panicking and worrying about loans, credit cards etc just after the loss of a parent.
