I am a member of Pocklington District Lions Club and will become the new president for 2017 / 2018 soon.

2017 is a significant year for Lions the world over - it is our 100th year of service.

Lions International was formed in 1917 by Melvin Jones and has been helping people all over the world since.

To mark this milestone local clubs were invited to think of ways we could create a lasting memorial of this year for years to come to celebrate and mark the Centenary Year of Lions Service.

The Pocklington District Club, which has been serving Pocklington and district for over 55 years, has come up with the idea of building a Lions Centenary Garden at Wold Haven Care Home in Pocklington.

There is a paved area in the centre of the building that is over looked by the reception area, where residents like to sit, and the dining area where, of course, residents meet several times a day to enjoy their meals, so they will be able to look out onto the new garden each day.

There is also access from inside the building for residents to get into the garden to sit and chat and to be able enjoy the new garden.

We will involve the residents and the staff in the general design of the garden and we would like it to be a multi-sensory garden so that residents that are perhaps wheel chair bound or can't move or see very well can enjoy it by smell and / or touch.

So we would wish there to be some sort of statue or garden ornaments as part of the installation.

The club would also like to involve as many people as we can with this project and that's where you come in.
