Today we have started our mental health campaign to ensure all parents of premature and sick babies receive the mental health support they so strongly need.
Our report published today is shocking in that:
94% parents feel they received no mental health support from trained psychologists or organisations.
85% didn't go to a GP because they are too worried being by their child's bedside.
60% had concerns over going to see a GP
53% were worried that a GP would report them to social services if they admitted they were struggling.
19% of parents felt suicidal.
We cannot change the system over night and ring fence the money needed but by piloting having a mental health worker on units we can prove to the Government that early intervention works.
