    Story

The project "Live To Remain: Coming Together Through Culture" is a collaboration between the Durham Interfaith group (University of Durham) and young people from Stockton and Durham. We aim to create a fruitful interaction between all the communities in Durham to facilitate the integration of refugees.
Our first event, "A Home from Home: A Glimpse of Syria", takes place early December in Durham. This is an introduction to the overall project, and a chance to connect members of different charities from the North East of England, plus anyone willing to engage with the project!

There are fantastic musicians: Sam Slatcher, who is a singer songwriter living in Durham. In his own words, "his gentle but uplifting songs reflect his passion for social justice and peace".
We also have the great pleasure of welcoming a mixed group of eight Syrian musicians from the Alsoreyen Orchestra, who are now living in different parts of the UK. The Alsoreyen Orchestra was one of the most acclaimed orchestras in Syria before the war; all of its members are professors or gifted students from the Conservatory of Damascus. Their concert combines singing, with the oud, the viola, and the qânun.

Your contribution is very important to make this first event a memorable time. More specifically, the money will go towards the transport tickets of the musicians, who are coming from London and near Leeds in particular. The remaining small amount of money will contribute towards the cost of the musicians' lunch, and the room booking for their practice session before the concert.

    Thanks very much!
