Story
We are a family from the UK who have recently (October 2016) moved to Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Our aim is to support, bless and encourage three projects who do excellent work with vulnerable young women and children in and around Freetown.
The first project is a young women's and children's centre in the Eastern part of Freetown. They do skills training to take young women away from the streets and teach them work such as cooking, being a seamstress, making hair garments amongst others. They also look after Ebola orphans and help relocate them to their wider families, providing a social work kind of service to ensure they are safe and looked after.
We would like to support the women to find real, sustainable jobs and possibly micro-finance some small operations. For the children, we would like to ensure they have access to education, food and promote the social work/community service to ensure they are properly cared for in a family environment.
The second project is a polio community about an hour outside of Freetown. They have an orphanage where 20+ children live with both physical and learning disabilities. Most of the children were abandoned and found on the streets, walking in the forests or just dropped on the doorstep! The lady who runs the project is called Melrose and she has a significant physical disability herself. We want to provide a safer, cleaner environment, ensuring their is funds for appropriate healthcare and increased support to ensure they are properly loved and cared for.
The third project is a primary school in a very poor part of Freetown and we hope to assist them with materials, to train the teachers and improve the nursery department for the little ones to have fun!
All money raised will go direct to the projects and full accountability will be published. With us now living in Sierra Leone we will ensure that the money is spent wisely and appropriately.
