Story

Lydney Town Band is committed to maintaining the tradition of brass banding in the Forest of Dean and working to achieve the highest standards possible. Over the last twelve months: we won the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Choice and March Third Section Contests as well as being awarded Best Percussion Section, came third at the Wychavon Festival of Brass Third Section, and in March 2024 achieved third place in the Third Section of the West of England Regional Championships (see photo) and qualified for the National Brass Band Championships!

At the same time, Lydney Training Band has gone from strength to strength, welcoming new members of all ages and abilities and introducing them to the incredible world of brass banding! In November 2023, they received a Gold Award at the Gloucester Brass Band Association Own Choice Contest (Youth, Training & Unregistered Section).

Success at contests and the development of new players requires hard work and dedication from the individuals involved, as well as our superb team of tutors and conductors. It also means that we need access to instruments that are suitable for the task at hand and in good condition. Unfortunately, acquiring new instruments (particularly percussion) and maintaining our existing consort can be an expensive business...but there is a way that you can help!

This year, a team of runners from Lydney Town Band will be taking part in the Severn Bridge and Portishead 10k races! Although we do not anticipate achieving podium places in these contests, the preparation will still require the same sort of dedication and hard work that they put into their playing every week.

We greatly appreciate anything you can contribute and it will help to make a huge difference to the future of the band!
