Story
Hello and welcome! Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
My name is Lavarn, and I am passionate about seeing people receive the best medical care, regardless of their background or circumstances.
To this end, I applied for a voluntary position as an Ophthalmic Perioperative Co-ordinator with an organisation called Mercy Ships. My main role will be co-ordinating pre and post op patients undergoing eye surgery. I have been successful in securing this post from February – April 2017.
History:-
Mercy Ships is an organisation that is transforming the face of medical care in developing nations through its world class volunteer crew. Mercy Ships is a faith based charity, bringing safe surgery to people in Africa who have no access to healthcare or money to pay for it. For over 38 years Mercy Ships has visited more than 55 developing nations and are passionate to serve those in need and to leave a lasting impact for the future of those they serve. Volunteer crew represents the organisation on-board through excellence and diligence. To date they have:-
• Transformed over 2 million lives through their work since 1978, with an average of 66,000 services offered per year
• Completed more than 1100 community development projects including the reconstruction of schools, clinics, orphanages, water wells and agriculture programmes. Providing local training and infrastructures to enable and sustain these communities' future success.
• Trained more than 5,900 local professionals (including surgeons) who have in turn trained over 198,000 local people, in basic healthcare.
• The hospital ship proudly boasts a purpose-built hospital including six state-of-the-art operating theatres and intensive care.
• They provide care in over 50 of the world’s poorest developing nations.
The money raised will go towards expenses such as my flight and accommodation to and from the ship.
Thank you in advance for your help and contribution.
Lavarn :)

7 years agoHi Everyone! My page has now closed, but still raising funds off-line. A gratitude of thanks to each and every one of you. I assure you every penny has been accounted for in helping me to serve the dear people, who's lives will be changed. As an update, I have been for blood test, to check my immunity against MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) All good and I'm immune. Just TB test to complete, which I will have the week commencing 9th of January. Annette: Although we don't know each other, may God will bless you for your seed of love

7 years agoHi Supporters!! Again, many thanks for all your lovely messages and financial support, in helping me realise this opportunity to serve. As an update, my flight has been booked and I was able to secure a humanitarian fare, which gives the flexibility of changing my ticket prior to travelling and returning from Africa. As I will be working in the ships hospital, I will need quite a number of vaccinations and a test. Its not the written kind, but for TB. Not sure what that entails, but will find out in just over a week.☺
