Weʼre raising £6,000 to provide birth basics for Gaza families

19 days to go

Don't have time to donate right now?

Story

There are 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, 180 babies born daily. Mothers & babies are suffering & dying unnecessarily for lack of antenatal &
postnatal care, hospitals, antibiotics, anaesthetics, vaccines, clean water, food, shelter & safety.

We are supporting midwife Sharyn, who previously volunteered as a human rights observer with Red Crescent ambulances in Gaza. We are raising money to make a difference to Gaza birthing families. However, with continuing uncertainty, we have a Plan A, B, and C. Please only donate if you are ok with this.

A: If Gaza’s border with Egypt is allowed to open, many Gaza folk may exit, resulting in a refugee camp forming nearby. Sharyn would then hope to offer tent-based midwifery support there. Funds would cover expenses & buy kit to use & give away.

B: kit bought may be passed to other/s doing similar work

C: money fundraised may be passed to a reputable non-profit organisation
addressing same need on the ground

A big, wide thank you to Friendly Soaps, who have donated 200 unfragranced soaps for our Midwifery Kits. While some of the kit contains key medical equipment, other components concern simple but essential needs; to be clean, to be dry, to be warm, to see when it is dark. - It's warming to think of the contributions from many individuals, groups, companies, coming together to make this happen. Thank you!

From S: We are now past 75% of our goal - THANK YOU so much everyone! We are starting to order items for packs now, and of course are asking companies for a discount to help out. Big thanks to www.cheekypants.com who are giving us 35% off their cloth maternity pads.

From S: We are so touched that we are now beyond 70% of our target, THANK YOU! A suggestion for those who have already donated or who would like to help in another way: You could create a personal email signature (like the kind people often have automatically attached to work emails) with a link to this page, and a simple message such as "I'm supporting this fundraising project for Gaza birthing families, please have a look and share."
