Story
Hi I'm Mitch, I've started this just giving page for my brave brother and sister in law who are facing a fight that no family should face.
My sister in law, Georgia, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma is a form of mouth cancer which was discovered during a routine dental appointment. Georgia has gone through extensive operations and treatments to remove the tumour and will have to endure more over the coming weeks, months and years. The treatment so far hasn't been plain sailing, and complications have slowed down Georgia's recovery and future progress. With all the stress that comes with operations, tests, treatment, appointments, physiotherapy and so on, Georgia and Jake still manage to operate as a family for their amazing children.
The operations Georgia has gone through have involved the removal of the roof of her mouth, teeth, bone in the back of her mouth the tumour and so much more. To replace what the surgeons had removed, Georgia has gone through a number of operations that involved removing flesh and skin from her arms to replace the areas that were covered in cancer in her mouth. The Initial operations to replace what the surgeons removed didn't work, so Georgia had to go through it all for a second time. Fortunately the operation worked this time which then allowed Georgia to have radiotherapy to target any remaining cancer cells. Georgia's prognosis has been mixed since the operations with some signs of good recovery but some tests have shown the cancer hasn't gone away. Despite these huge challenges, Georgia fights on with a smile on her face hitting this horrible disease head on.
The last few months have be tiring for the family to say the least. Maintaining a normal life for their children must be another huge challenge that Georgia and Jake face daily. But they do it. they still create this amazing, happy environment for their children with laughter and jokes. They deserve nothing but admiration and recognition for how they are fighting this terrible disease. They keep a smile on their faces, and continue to be brave and always, always do their very best for their children!
Constant appointments, trips to the hospital and tests must be nothing short of draining, and the chance of some respite is a dream I know they wish for. But It shouldn't be a dream. Georgia, Jake and the kids have gone through so much and deserve nothing short of the opportunity of some respite. The chance to feel normal again. The chance to forget the worry of the battle they face as a family would mean so much to them.
So my dream is to fulfil their dream of a rest, a chance to get away from it all, the chance to forget the battle and enjoy a bit of respite.
So what am I doing to help raise as much money as possible for a brave family for the chance of some respite?
I'm going to their house!
As a fire fighter we take on challenges all the time but none are as big as what Georgia is having to face. I'm taking on the challenge of walking, jogging, yomping, running and cycle 117 miles in full fire kit with a BA set and helmet from my house in Uttoxeter Staffordshire to their house in Yate in Bristol. I hope to complete the challenge in two days and raise as much money and awareness of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma as possible. Along the way I hope to set a new World Record of the furthest distance covered in Firefighter uniform which in turn will hopefully create more awareness, and raise more money for a fantastic cause!
Georgia and Jake have faced rough times over the years but this is a challenge they will need help with to fight. Your donations and support will go along way in helping Georgia and the family to the opportunity of some respite, a trip away, a little holiday or just a trip to the seaside.
Georgia and Jake haven't asked for a thing! Not a moments rest, not a penny towards costs, nothing. They've cracked on like the amazing people they are, and are hitting the fight head on.
Thank you for reading Georgia's story, and hope you can show your support.
