Story

Violence against women and girls is a global problem. An estimated 10 million women feel unsafe in their relationships, homes and communities in South Africa alone.

MOSAIC has dedicated 30 years determined to see a radical change in these statistics. The approach is anchored in prevention and support whilst collaborating and advocating for systems to be strengthened and survivor centred. Being a community-based organisation MOSAIC can focus on lived experiences of survivors and their team are experts at responding to the specific needs of each community they are present within.

MOSAIC provides services in Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCC) across the Western Cape. These are one-stop centres situated in a hospital where a suvivor of rape can access a range of services and postraumatic care without being exposed the secondary victimisation.

Rape and domestic violence survivors often arive at a TCC without shoes, with no change of clothes or toiletries. We are raising money to provide 100 survivors with a care package that can provide dignity and comfort. On average it costs MOSAIC £20 to provide a care package to a child and £25 for an adult. These packages include a change of underwear and clothes, a meal, sanitary products and essential toiletries. It also includes a small toy for the children who need to access the services.

MOSAIC UK is the UK arm of MOSAIC in South Africa. All proceeds raised go directly to MOSAIC in South Africa.
