Kai's Story:
In July 2021 at the age of 10 Kai began vomiting. After weeks of trips to A&E he was diagnosed with a WNT Medulloblastoma brain tumour in his cerebellum. Kai underwent a 9 hour surgery to remove it and spent the next 6 weeks at Birmingham Children’s Hospital recovering. He required speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy input due to the effects of surgery. Over the following year Kai spent 6 weeks in Manchester receiving proton beam radiotherapy followed by 6 months of chemotherapy and spent a considerable amount of time in hospital for blood transfusions and infections. Finally, Kai got to ring the bell in July 2022 and he had the all clear in August 2022. Sadly 3 months later in November 2022 a routine MRI scan showed a new tumour growth at the front of his brain. A week before Christmas 2022 Kai had another lengthy surgery to remove the growth and began gruelling treatment regime of radiotherapy and chemotherapy again, Kai is still receiving treatment to this present day. Kai is an inspiration to us all. He is the bravest most resilient boy. He is the most well-mannered, polite student. He always tried his best in school and is a role model to us all.
To help raise money for Kai and his family, staff are going to tackle a gruelling 24-hour walking challenge.
The National Three Peaks Challenge from Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, July 21. They will climb Ben Nevis (1345m), Scafell Pike (978m) and finally Snowdon (1085m) All in 24 hours! A large proportion of Moseley's staff body will be completing the challenge with the team scaling the final summit together!
