I've raised £250 to offer live music for people to be supported by the Music at Home Service, for anyone who struggles to go out, but loves music and a chat.

Story

Marc’s half marathon on Cadair Idris will find him running what’s been called ’possibly the toughest half marathon in the UK, and the most awe-inspiring’. Hopefully the weather will be kind on Sunday, 30 June! He’s raising money for Music Anywhere, a community music organisation established to reduce loneliness and isolation for people living rurally. Marc volunteers for Music Anywhere, offering his time at events and with IT. He has seen first hand the way that music can bring people to life and get them sharing memories and experiences.

I've seen the real impact that it has on people and arts in health organisations are struggling. I want to put my hobby to good use and set myself a challenge that helps other people.

Through The Music at Home Service (The MHS) we bring live music to people's homes. Our musicians aren't only gifted instrumentally, but are chosen for the rapport they build with the people they support with their music.

It’s the highlight of my week, the thing I look forward to. She’s a really gifted musician and she’s introduced me to new music. I’m playing her some classical music on her next visit!

Perhaps you or a loved one can't leave the house often, have a condition or accessibility needs? Live music in your lounge might seem a bit odd, but a cuppa and a song can go a long way to improving your day and give you something to chat about.

The Music at Home Service isn’t easy to get funding for. With so many pressures on services, music is seen as a luxury, but it can be an essential part of keeping someone active, both physically and mentally. It can help in multiple ways, reducing anxiety, providing enrichment and stimulation as well as encouraging movement, even just a toe tap! It connects people, giving someone being cared for at home a different experience, and their carer a fresh perspective.

Musicians are referenced, police checked, trained and supported to play for vulnerable people. They are chosen for their skills with people, as much as music.

All the funds raised go directly to deliver the Music at Home Service, paying musicians for their time and skills.
