Story
Whilst on our honeymoon last year we had the great privilege of attending a community trip to Nteveni Day care centre and Mawewe school. This was the highlight of our trip as the children and the teachers were truly inspirational and the fun atmosphere was electric!
Set up and ran by "Pride 'n' Purpose" charity these schools provide opportunities for children to be cared for and educated in a safe environment. They treated us in the pre school to some beautiful singing and introductions and in the older school to a brilliant drama.
The charity leader in the area David explained to us that most of the staff there were voluntary and just had a natural way with the children. He showed how they do everything they can to make things sustainable, including a merrygo round water pump which is a toy for the children and provides water for the children. He also explained how volunteers from the worlds help to get projects off the ground and provide training and support to the fulltime volunteer teachers and carers in the setting. I am a childminder and qualified childcare trainer and my partner is studying become an IT teacher and with our own daughter being 4 years old we felt we really really wanted to support and save to come and volunteer.
As fate would have it on our way home from honeymoon our flight was overbooked and we were offered to change flights in return for return tickets back to Joh. We jumped at this chance it giving us the opportunity to do more and return to volunteer. Which we have done and we are set to fly out and volunteer this October.
There are many ongoing projects which we may volunteer in but we really want to support the children in the schools we visited. And want to raise funds to fly out an extra suitcase to take out school supplies as they are so remote it is hard to get them the supplies out that they need. We are looking for funds to pay for extra suitcase to fill with school supplies, and funds to purchase what they need!
