Story
In April 2024 a crew from the Cotswold Civil Service Sailing Club will join yachts and crew from all over the world to participate in the one of the world’s major sailing events, Antigua Sailing Week. From small beginnings this regatta has developed over almost 55 years to become one of the preeminent yacht racing events in the Caribbean and one of the most prestigious worldwide.
In keeping with our Sailing Clubs ethos of ‘Giving back’, we are actively raising funds for The National Sailing Academy of Antigua’s Sailability Programme . This not-for-profit organisation in the English Harbour area of Antigua was set up with the aim of providing local disabled people with opportunities to learn to swim and get afloat. To this date, it is the only program in Antigua that offers a recreational activity to differently able people from the local community and one of only a handful of such programs in the entire Caribbean region. With 85 to 150 participants taking part in this program on a weekly basis they rely heavily on support to keep this fantastic venture running.
We would be most grateful if you were able to support our fundraising efforts with a donation to our overall cash fund for the purchase of goods in support of this charity. The Sailability Programme are in acute need of Rash Vests; Baseball Caps; Deck Shoes (or trainers with non-marking soles); dinghy parts; and RYA manuals. British Airways have kindly agreed to allow our crew to courier all goods received at no additional charge.
